      The purpose of this study is to observe the histopathologic and histochemic changes produced in developmental tooth bud of fetal albino rats, following intravenous injection of cytosine arabinoside to maternal body. The female albino rats, weighing 200g or more divided into experimental, and control animal groups. After gestation of all rats, the experimental animal group were intravenously injected at tail in each, al a dose of 50mg/kg, 7.5mg/kg body weight, on 7th, 9th, 11th, 13th day after gestation. And the rats were sacrificed on 21st day after gestation just before delivery, removed the fetus. The control anima1 up were taken with same method as experimental animal group except cytosine arabinoside injections. Specimens were fixed in absolute alcohol and 10% neutral formalin solution, embedded in paraffin, and sectioned. Decalcification of the fetal tissue was unnecessary. Each samples was stained with various type of method which was periodic acid-Schiff, toluidine blue, alcian blue, periodic acid-Schiff-alcian blue, mucicarrnine, alizarine red S. and hematoxyline-eosin. Results were as follow: 1. In experimental group, body weight of rat fetus was markedly decreased on 7.5mg/kg body weight injection, group and 50mg/kg body weight injection, intensively decreased body weight than control animal group. The injection of cytosine arabinoside affected the body weight of developing fetus. 2. In experimental group, 50mg/kg body weight injection, it is noticed that: cleft palate, deft lip, micrognathia and short kinked tai1 on 9th, 11th, 13th day after gestation and mandibular cleft was appeared on 9th day after gestation. 3. In experimental group, shrunken cytoplasm with pyknotic nuclei was noticed on ameloblasts, stratum intermedium, and development of odontobiasts was affected following 50mg/kg body weight injection. 4. Periodic acid-Schiff, toluidine blue, alcian blue, periodic acid-Schiff-alcian blue, mucicarmine reactions were decreased significantly on 7.5mg/kg injection experimental group and markedly decreased on 50mg/kg injection experimental group. 5. No significant histopathologic changes were observed on alizarin red S, reaction to both experimental, and control group.
