공감척도를 활용한 공감 디자인 개념 연구 = Study on the Concept of Empathy Design using Empathy Scale

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study is a groundwork for establishing an idea of empathy design, and tries to investigate emotional communion involved with artistic creation in terms of a perspective of design conception. Availing of empathy scale in psychology, this paper seeks to draw the conception of empathy applicable to creative thinking in design through contrasting relations of emotional communion with communicative functions of artistic creation Such a process to derive a conclusion runs with Mark H. Davis’ empathy scale developed from Carl R. Rogers’ and Irving & Dickson’s idea. In this respect, I categorize contents of empathy scale as 4 stages to reason out substance of empathy, which is possible to be applied to design concept, and also conduct modification as well as supplementation of the contents in order to derive sentimental contents corresponding to thinking in design. As a result, the contents of emotional empathy divides into a cognitive dimension, and sentimental dimension. The former includes concentration, tranquility, imagination, assimilation, and empathy of pity. The later represents trust, truth, tolerance, perspective, harmony, familiarity intriguing a user’s interest, readings of a user, pain, anxiety, fear, alienation, and self-control. Understanding the contents of empathy in a communicational view of emotional communion, empathy and readings of one’s mind are critical elements for increasing a degree of empathy in empathy design.
