Effects of Scalp Micro Pigmentation(SMP) Satisfaction on Interpersonal Relationship Disposition and Psychological Well-Being: The Dual Mediation of Appearance Satisfaction and Perceived Physical Attractiveness.
In modern society, appearance is an important clue to predicting success and is recognized as an individual's halo effect. The desire for beauty is recognized as the most primal and highest expression drive of humans. Recently, it has been reported that the negative perception of appearance due to hair loss causes various physical, psychological, and social problems. Accordingly, scalp micro pigmentation(SMP) is gaining attention as an alternative that can not only improve the visual effects of hair loss but also overcome various psychological factors caused by hair loss. However, only a very small number of studies have been reported domestically and internationally on the causal relationship between scalp micro pigmentation(SMP) and psychological well-being variables of hair loss patients. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of scalp micro pigmentation(SMP) satisfaction on interpersonal relationship disposition and psychological well-being, and further to empirically analyze the double mediating effects of appearance satisfaction and perceived physical attractiveness. The research participants of this study were 454 adult men and women who had prior experience with scalp micro pigmentation(SMP) and the sampling method adopted the convenience sampling method. In this study, data were collected through a structured questionnaire. The collected data were subjected to descriptive statistics, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, analysis of variance (ANOVA), structural equation model analysis and mediation effect analysis using bootstrapping. The conclusions derived through a series of research procedures are as follows. First, the satisfaction with scalp micro pigmentation(SMP) was found to have a statistically significant positive(+) effect on appearance satisfaction and perceived physical attractiveness. Second, the satisfaction with scalp micro pigmentation(SMP) was found to have a statistically significant positive(+) effect on interpersonal relationship disposition and psychological well-being. Third, the satisfaction with appearance of scalp micro pigmentation(SMP) experiencers showed a statistically significant positive(+) effect on psychological well-being, but there was no significant effect relationship with interpersonal relationship disposition. Fourth, the perceived physical attractiveness of scalp micro pigmentation(SMP) experiencers showed a statistically significant positive(+) effect on interpersonal relationship disposition and psychological well-being. Fifth, in the relationship between scalp micro pigmentation(SMP) satisfaction and interpersonal relationship disposition, the double mediation effect of appearance satisfaction and perceived physical attractiveness was verified, and the partial mediation effect of perceived physical attractiveness was shown, but the mediation effect of appearance satisfaction was not found. Sixth, in the relationship between scalp micro pigmentation(SMP) satisfaction and psychological well-being, the double mediation effect of appearance satisfaction and perceived physical attractiveness was verified, and the statistically significant full mediation effect was found. This study is significant in that it empirically analyzed the causal relationship between scalp micro pigmentation(SMP) and social and psychological variables in a situation where there is no research on the psychological well-being of scalp micro pigmentation(SMP) domestically or internationally. In addition, it has the meaning of exploring specific intervention therapies for the quality of life of hair loss patients by clarifying the positive relationship between scalp micro pigmentation (SMP) and psychological variables. The results of this study will ultimately be able to present a business model for sustainable management in the beauty industry, and can ultimately be utilized as basic data for establishing strategies for the development of the beauty industry.
