The purpose of this study was to investigate whether moderate exercise and polyphenol intake contribute to lipid profiles, inflammatory cytokine production, and lipid metabolism in high-fat diet induced obese mice and middle aged obese women.
As results, Exercise training significantly reduced body weight, fat pads weight, and inflammatory cytokine production in epididymal fat and skeletal muscle of high-fat diet induced obese mice. Exercise training increased lipolysis mRNA in the soleus muscle. Combined treatment with exercise training and polyphenol supplementation significantly decreased lipid profiles, %fat in middle aged obese women. However combined treatment with exercise training and polyphenol supplementation did not affect physical fitness, cell proliferation and inflammatory cytokine production in PBMC of middle aged obese women.
These findings suggest that exercise training reduced inflammatory cytokine levels and improved lipid metabolism. However polyphenol supplementation did not affect these parameters. Thus, long-term moderate exercise training has positive effects on obesity.
