다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract) kakao i 다국어 번역

This paper aims to forecast the possibility of change on relationship between North Korea and the United States by analyzing the effectualness and limit of sports as a tool for easing tension inferred some cases of sport diplomacy with the United States. As is generally known, behind the historic affair of the normalization of relation between the United States and China about forty years ago, a word called ``ping-pong diplomacy`` has been accompanied with the assessment that the sport exchange had made a decisive contribution to resolving tension between two powers which had been in a sharp confrontation politically and militarily. On this account, more than a few people have expressed their attention and expectation about the political effect of sport exchange. Furthermore some has even tried to reproduce such a success story. The reason for the attention from the media about the recent visit to Pyongyang and a series of walking of a former US basketball star is here as well. However, this paper concludes that the possibility of improvement of relation between North Korea and the United States is unlikely because the role and function of sports as a diplomatic tool for easing strained relations is limited and the effect depends more on political calculations and motive, even though it is hard to deny that sports can have some influence on political interaction in international relations.
