The aim of this study is to investigate the factors affecting Self-Reliance in adolescents. Subjects were 768 middle school students(377 boys and 391 girls). Data analysis was done by F-test and multiple regression. The major findings of the study were as follows; (1) Self-Reliance in adolescents was positively related to the adolescent academic grades and mother`s democratic parenting style, but negatively related to mother`s permissive parenting style and family economic conditions (2) Among these variables, the effect of mother`s democratic parenting style on their adolescents` self-reliance was most powerful. These findings tell us that parenting styles are very important factors affecting Self-Reliance in adolescents and that some special programs to support adolescents and their parents are needed.
