강원도 수복지구 천주교 성당의 문화재적 가치에 관한 연구 = A Study on the Cultural Value of Catholic Church in the Reclaimed Area of Gwangwon Province

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Purpose of this study was to identify cultural value of Dongmyung-dong catholic church, Yangyang catholic church and Inje catholic church as cultural properties which are located in reclaimed area, rolled as landmark of the cities and are subject to cultural properties as more than 50 years after construction. Analysis of the reasons for registration of modern cultural heritages and three criteria for registering cultural assets such as monumentality and symbolism, representation and cognition of the region, and the age of technology and art thought - were key analysis factors to reach the purpose. This study found that the cathedrals were of sufficient value for registered cultural properties. Also, because of their same characteristics such as reclaimed area, landmark of new postwar urban landscape and reflection the are of war and the help of the U.S. Army in the process of building a cathedral with the identity of the growth of reclaimed area, those churches are recommended to register as modern cultural heritages simultaneously. Furthermore, this study contributes to prevent reckless urban development and preserve it as registered cultural properties of the local government.
