Open education is not a methodology of education. It is rather a spirit, i.e., spirit of progressive education. Considered as a spirit, its critical principles such as interest, spontaneity, creativity and difference of individuality, would have to be considered as its attributes, not as purposes or means. The word immersion seems to indicate the very spirits of openness of open education. a) Because the thing that makes someone fully involved is not an extrinsic purpose but the thing itself. Immersion implicates differences of individual needs and interests. b) Because the process of immersion can be viewed as purpose-orientated activity, it can make possible the creative re-construction of one`s belief systems. Finally, immersion could be viewed as identical with the spirit of openness in that the latter makes the former known.
