Creating a technology-enhanced learning environment poses a double challenge for teachers of English as a foreign language: The use of computer in existing curricula and changes grounded in second language acquisition (SLA) principles. Using Long’s (2000) and Chapelle’s (1998) principles for the development of computer- assisted language learning materials, this paper discusses seven guidelines for integrating a course book into web content that satisfy SLA principles: (1) noticing of input; (2) comprehensible and rich input; (3) modification of the input; (4) interactions in the target language; (5) noticing of errors; (6) flexibility; and (7) sequential tasks. Long’s and Chapelle’s principles are reviewed to extract conceptual design and evaluation criteria, and examples are provided.
