‘어디에나 있는 미디어’의 이론을 향해 기술의 자동성과 제어 개념에 대한 비판적 탐색 = Media that Are All Around A Critical Exploration on the Concept of Automatism and Control of Technology

Inthemidstofachangeinthemediaenvironment,industrial discourseson‘technology’arebloatedwhilephilosophicaland conceptualdiscussionson‘media’havenotbeenconductedindepth. Byexaminingtheconceptsofmediaandtechnologyfromthe interdisciplinaryperspectivebetweenmediatheoryandotherrelated academicfields,thisarticlehasapurposeofexplorationtosuggesta mediatheoryatlarge.Themaindiscussionisdividedintofourparts. First,Iexamineso-calledSiliconValleyperspectivewhichleadspublic discourseaswellasresearchinacademiaintotechno-centricism. Second,Icriticallyexplorethemeaningoftheculturalimaginationof technologicalautonomythathasbeenbuiltaroundintelligentmedia suchasAI.Third,theimplicationoftechnologicalcontrol,symbolized bytheparadoxofhumanisticposthuman,iscriticallyexplored. Fourth,atheoryof‘mediathatareallaround’isproposedinlinewith overcomingtechnocentricautomatismandanthropocentrism.Thisis anefforttounderstandtheconceptofmediaas‘action-at-adistance’ andtounderstandmediaasarelationshipbeyondtechno-centrism andanthropocentrism.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

미디어 환경의 변화 속에서 ‘기술’에 대한 산업적 논의는 비대해지는 반면 ‘미디어’에 대한철학적이고개념적인논의는깊이이루어지지못하고있다. 이글은미디어와 기술의개념을미디어연구와인접학문의접점에서살핌으로써, 더욱확장된미디 어이론을제안하려는탐색적시론의목적을지닌다. 주요논의는네부분으로나뉜 다.첫째,미국실리콘밸리의소수빅테크기업이오늘날의미디어기술관련대중 담론과학술연구를주도해온과정과그의미를비판적으로검토한다. 둘째, 인공지 능 등 지능화 미디어를 둘러싸고 구축되어 온 ‘자동성’에 대한 문화적인 상상의 아이 러니를탐색한다. 셋째, ‘인간보다더인간다운기술’이라는역설로상징되는기술에 대한제어의의미를탐색한다. 넷째, 자동성이라는기술중심주의와제어가능성이라 는 인간중심주의를 극복하기 위해, ‘어디에나 있는 미디어’의 개념을 제안한다. 이는 미디어의개념을‘먼거리작용’으로이해하는것이며, 기술중심주의와인간중심주의 를벗어나관계로서의미디어를파악하고자하는노력이다.
