As we are living in an era where the cultural industry plays an increasing role in the world, we need to take a closer look at how the information system and the cultural industry depend on each other. As a researcher myself, who introduced a digital ticketing system for the first time in Korea and contributed commercializing the digital ticketing system for the cultural industry to some extent, I wanted to find out what could lead to the use of internet ticketing system and then, hopefully suggest which way we should be heading from now on.
Recently, industries other than cultural industry have already started to look into how introduction of information system has changed their performances and what has led them to choose the information system after all. Many experts identified and proposed the factors for successful application of information system in many different perspectives. The basic methodology, however, in order to draw these findings mostly bases Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) proposed by Davis in 1986.
However, this methodology seems not enough to explain the use of web-based information system while it works well in getting to know the use of information system internal to a specific organization.
Furthermore, web-related theories have argued that characteristics of a website have a direct impact on the use of web-based information system. While the existing researches on this issue have only focused on how the web pages are composed of, they have failed to explain how the composition of each website affects the mind of the users of the system and what causes the users to choose a certain web-based system. Under this circumstance, I think we need to see the internet ticketing system in the same way we did information system, and at the same time we should find out what affects the decision of a userpsychologically so that he or she gets to choose a certain internet-based ticketing system.
Therefore, this work summarizes the existing theories and researches on the information system, identifies and demonstrates what basically causes people to use the internet ticketing system, and to which extent they are satisfied with it, by making the best use of variations of relevant theories including TAM, characteristics of web sites, flow experience, trust on the channel by consumers, and "IS success" of DeLone & MCLean.
To begin with, this work focuses on the internet-based ticketing system, one channel of many digital ticketing systems. This is what we call Internet Ticketing System (ITS), a system which deals with reservation, ticketing, and payment using the internet.
The first purpose of this research is to verify the hypothesize that the trust of consumers and the use of internet ticketing system is related based on the TAM theory which is the well-known theory for this kind of verification.
Second, this research takes a look at what causes people psychologically and emotionally to use the internet ticketing system in the premise that the use of the ticketing system on the internet is equivalent to buying tickets in the real world which may be regarded as a cultural activity.
Third, this work is designed to verify the hypothesis that the characteristics of f an web site take part important role in providing the internet users with a enjoyment, concentration, and trust.
To meet these three purposes, I conducted an online poll on 1429 online users, who responded they have ever experienced the internet ticketing system more than once. And among them, I picked up 1141 cases as examples to back up on this topic of the work. After considering validity and credibility of conducting tools, I applied structural equation, and used LISREL 8.51 for verification of the validity of the model.
The conclusion of the work is summarized as follows.
First, internet users have different "flow experience" according to the characteristics of web site. Although there are various definitions for flow experience, I define it as the characteristics of "shopping enjoyment" and "concentration" for the purpose of this study. According to this study results, Enjoyment is influenced only by community quality among web site characteristics, but Concentration is influenced by content quality.
Second, content quality affect the trust for channel.
Third, the use of internet ticketing system was influenced by flow experience which is defined by shopping enjoyment and concentration, by the trust of channel, and by the perceived behavioral control.
Fourth, user satisfaction is affected by "use".
Results of this study find its meanings in identifying that the characteristics of web site affecting in flow, the flow experience parameters the system quality and system use which are the characteristics of web site and identifying the relationship between flow experience and information systems. The results also demonstrates that the conventional researches also support my findings mentioned above.
The results of this study suggests a strategy how to access the culture consumers by the cultural industry in digital environment. The people involved in cultural industry should be able to set up a new paradigm which can get a hold of culture consumers who live in a new era of digital world. This study may provide an indication what is most important aspect in the information system which is related with cultural activities, leading a new win and win strategy for ticket providers and ticket consumers.
This study limits the research on the satisfaction of individuals who utilize internet ticketing system. However, considering another main consumer group of internet ticketing systems are corporations related with culture industry, the study on the satisfaction level of internet ticketing system by these corporate users will be an important future studies
