의암 손병희의 ‘교정쌍전’의 국가건설 사상 = 문명계몽, 민회운동, 3.1독립운동

국문 초록 (Abstract)

일제하 3.1운동은 대외적인 자주 독립의 확인이었으며, 대내적으로는 왕정에서 공화정으로의 전환하는 계기였다. 이 글은 3.1운동에서 중심적 역할을 한 의암 손병희의 새로운 국가건설 사상과 실천의 특성을 교정쌍전으로 분석하였다 교정쌍전은 동학의 도덕정치의 근대적 계승ㆍ발전이다. 의암은 동학을 근대적 종교로 발전시켜 천도교로 이름하고 언론사업과 교육사업을 통하여 근대적 민을 형성하여 새로운 국가형성의 주제로 삼았다. 민의 활동은 민회를 통하여 구체화ㆍ제도화되었으며, 민회는 일련의 근대화 운동의 자치조직으로 발전하였다. 천도교의 근대화 운동은 천도에 기초한 민족자결의 자주 국가를 건설하기 위한 일제로부터의 독립운동인 3.1운동에 이르러 그 정점에 이르렀다. 권력의 중심에 도덕을 세우고자 했던 의암의 근대국가의 기본구상은 「천도교대헌」에 잘 나타나고 있었으나 일제하에서 이러한 자주적 근대국가의 프로젝트는 미완의 꿈으로 남겨졌다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Koreans yearning for modem independent Nation State was well expressed through 3.1 independent movement, which was epochal in two senses. First of all since 3.1 movement Koreans independent movement's major issue was transferred from the restoration of Chosun Dynasty to building a new republican Nation State. Secondly 3.1 movement declared clearly the people's power to build a independent Nation abroad and influenced China and India's Independent movements. Euiam Shon Byung Hee played the central role in this movement. This article argued that Euiam intended to build a autonomous modem Nation State according to the Donghaks political philosophy. Under the name of Chondokyo(modernized Donghak) Euiam organized the people and mobilized the people's power. By funding and managing major colleges and schools he educated many leaders for indpendent movement. He himself suggested the organization of modem self-government of the small town and Villages. The Chondokyo constitution was written in the spirit of the separation of legal, administrative, and judicial powers. But only the spirituality realized personality can be the heads of three powers. He dreamed to found the morality centered sovereignty that was the ideal state from the ancient Asia and Korea.
