다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract) kakao i 다국어 번역

Taoism is one of the main central Chinese philosophies. By 1961, a translation and some academical researches on the Tao Te Ching had been introduced in the Spanish-speaking regions, These texts were then complemented in the following years, and by 1970’s, a near perfect translation of the Tao Te Ching had become published. The translators interpreted the main concepts in the Tao Te Ching through the contexts of Greek philosophies and Biblical accounts that constitute the foundation of the Western culture. Such way of interpretation was necessary for the translators to make their fellow Spaniards comprehend the original text, which contained Oriental thoughts. Additionally, as the implicative expressions written in the form of pithy maxims within the Tao Te Ching were well suited to function as a literary device, these phrases were frequently used as the main materials in the Spanish Latinamerican literatures. Spanish people have enthusiastically embraced Taoism because of the ideological tolerance inherent in the philosophy. They see that the Western philosophies-with their emphasis on the reason represented in the rationality, progress, advancement, and competition-cannot provide solutions to today’s problems of environmental pollution, widening wealth gap, and the conflicts between the East and the West. Subsequently, the Spanish audience believe that Taoism, which calls for “Letting Nature Be”, can work as a significant alternative in solving today’s problems. The manner with which the Spanish-speaking world embraced Taoism clearly reflects the possibility of the earnest and engaged exchange of and the harmony between the Eastern and the Western cultures. It is my conviction that the construction of the communicative Global village in the truest sense will be accelerated if such cultural embracement hereafter continues.
