As the field of instructional design has developed, instructional de sign is a discipline of study. This is a natural phenomemon when the role of instructional design became more predominant within the general field of instructional technology. Instructional design is the science of creating detailed specifications for the development, evaluation and maintenance of situations which facilitate the learning outcomes. And so we need to start developing our research agenda for the field by identifying the gaps between conceptual models and procedural models in instructional design. Instructional design as a discipline should be distinguished from the procedures of de signing instructions. Conceptual models and procedural models are not theories in itself. Thus a comprehensive theory of instructional design would have to include both of them. In other word, A commonly accepted comprehensive theory that integrates conceptual and procedural models would establish research priorities, with a base of foundational knowledge of instruction. In conclusion, instructional design as a discipline on a science must be based on a comprehensive theory which identifies, describes, and organizes all relevant variables and factors in instructional events.
