The objectives of this article are to consider the functions and positions that non verbal elements take in Korean materials through a systematic analysis of non verbal elements currently present in Korean materials and to present how these non verbal elements should be introduced and utilized in the development of Korean materials in the future. Presently, the main purpose of language and foreign language education is to help students to communicate, based on the student-oriented education methodology. In other words, the language education should not consist of grammatical rules and the learning of vocabulary only, but should equip students with the ability to understand and use the respective language in real situations. This ability to communicate is not only focused on linguistic areas, but also non verbal areas in particular and should encompass both linguistic and non verbal capabilities. In view of this fact, we draw the conclusion that a student should study both the language and its non verbal elements in order to have complete ability to communicate in his foreign language study or his own language study. To that end, a systematic research on theories and presentation of list of such non verbal elements should be made first, on the basis of which materials should be developed, in consideration of non verbal elements.
