旅軒 張顯光의 학적 연원과 학문관 = A Study on the Origin and View of Yeoheon Chang Hyun-kwang`s Studies

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to analyze the view of Yeoheon Chang Hyun-kwang`s studies. As everyone knows, he was one of the six prominent neo-Confucian scholars in Joseon Dynasty. He developed unique Confucian theories including Ligigyeongseol (A Confucian theory explaining Li and Chi by comparing them with the weft and warp) following Toeggye Whang Lee and Yulgok I Lee, revealing his strong aspirations saying “Only a person who has accomplished an important achievement of the world can become a prominent figure of the world” in his book about the universal principles titled Ujuyogwalcheop (宇庫要括帖) in the 18th century.
Although he explained that the scope of study was divided into moral philosophy, natural science, study of mind, authentic scholarship and study of sages` learning, the fundamental purpose of learning was to become a sage. It is possible to summarize his studies in a word that the purpose of studies is “to properly manage the affairs of state” in real world through accomplishing a “task of the universe”, which is “the most important work in the world”, to “become a sage” who is “the most prominent figure in the world”.
