G protein-mediated signal transduction system involves receptors, heterotrimeric guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) and effector molecules which form complicate information processing networks. The main research has been focused on the characterization of the molecular interactions specifying the information processing circuits. Many of the clinically used therapeutics exert their effects through G protein-coupled receptors and the G protein act as molecular switches connecting cell surface receptors to variety of effectors. The more understanding of the molecular mechanism of G protein-mediated signal transduction system will allows us to find new drug targets for the discovery of better therapeutics. Therefore, this review will briefly describe the general features of G protein-mediated signal transduction system and some of the current findings in it.
