This study aims to analyze the content of environmental and energy education in the 2022 revised national curriculum and explore its connection to climate crisis response education. To achieve this, we examined the general framework and school-level curricula of the 2022 Revised National Curriculum, yielding the following findin2gs. First, the general framework emphasizes the development of future competencies and a proactive response to climate and ecological changes while integrating environmental and energy topics as interdisciplinary themes across subjects. Second, in elementary schools, environmental and energy-related content is mainly covered in integrated subjects, social studies, science, and practical arts. However, the achievement standards directly related to environmental and energy topics for the [Grades 3–4] group are relatively insufficient, highlighting the need for supplementary education to address this gap. Third, in middle schools, relevant content is primarily included in social studies, science, technology and home economics, and elective environmental studies. Since the relationship between climate change and energy use is mainly addressed in the elective environmental studies course, it is necessary to expand this topic into a core subject or adjust the grade levels in which it is taught. Fourth, in high schools, interdisciplinary themes are embedded in achievement standards across subjects. Compared to the previous curriculum, there has been a noticeable increase in the environmental and energy-related content in the integrated elective courses within the social sciences. This reflects the growing recognition of the importance of social science approaches to climate change discussions in the international community and underscores the need for environmental and energy education to be addressed beyond individual subjects through an interdisciplinary approach. The 2022 Revised National Curriculum largely incorporates these considerations.
