타당성, EFQ, 그리고 리드의 해결책 = Validity, EFQ, and Read’s Solution

국문 초록 (Abstract)

우리의 타당성 개념이 때로 반직관적인 결과를 낳는다는 점은 널리 알려져 있다. 대표적인 것 가운데 하나는 “논리적으로 거짓인 명제는 아무 명제나 다 함축한다”는 것을 말하는 EFQ이다. 이 글에서 나는 EFQ를 피하기 위한 리드의 해결책을 살펴보고, 그의 견해가 설득력이 없음을 보인다. 특히 내포적 선언이 나오는 선언 도입과 외연적 선언이 나오는 선언 삼단논법이 부당하다는 리드의 논증은 성공적이지 않음을 보인다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Our notion of validity in classical logic seems to yield some unintuitive results, one of which is that known as EFQ, ex falso quodlibet. In this paper I examine Read’s solution to EFQ. Read argues that some rules of inference such as addition or disjunctive syllogism are not valid. I show that he does not succeed in establishing the invalidity of those rules.
