In order to investigate the effect of Cnidii Rhiaoma, Acori Rhizome and Pincerlike Rhizome on thrombosis and elevated blood viscosity, thrombosis was induced in situ by injecting endotoxin in the caudal vein of Sprague-Dawley rats. These rats were then treated with solid extract of Cnidii Rhizoma 187.2㎎/200g (Sample A), Acori Rhizoma 30.7㎎/200g (Sample B), and Pinelliae Rhizoma 164.8/200g (Sample C) whichwere administered orally. Then rhe numbers of plateletsm, concentration of fibrinogen and FDP(fibrin-fibrinogen degradation products) were measured. Elevated blood viscosity was produced by the injection of hydrocortisone acetate into the muscular rump of rats and Cnidii Rhizoma 187.2㎎/200g (Sample A). Acori Rhizoma 30.7㎎/200g (Sample B) Pinelliae. Rhizoma 164.8㎎/200g (Sample C) were orally administered to above rats, and then body weight, body temperature, whole blood viscosity, plasma viscosity, hematocrit, RBC, WBC, hemoglobin, glucose, albumin, total protein cholesterol and triglyceride were measured.
The results were summarized as follows:
1. Platelet was meaningfully increased in Sample A and C compared with the control group.
2. Prothrombin time was significantly shortened in Sample A and B compared with the control group.
3. Fibrinogen was significantly increased in Sample A and B compared with the control group.
4. FDP was meaningfully decreased in Sample A compared with the control group.
5. Body weight was significantly increased in Sample A after 7 days, and body temperature was no significant effects.
6. Both whole blood viscosity and plasema viscosity were decreased in the trial groups compared with the control group.
7. Hematocrit was increased in Sample A, WBC was increased in Sample C, hemoglobin was increased in Sample A.
8. Cholesterol was decreased in Sample B, triglyceride was decreased in Sample C.
9. Albumin, total protein, RBC and glucose were no significant effects.
According to the above results, it was recognized that not only Cnidii Rhizoma (a drug for invigorating blood circulation) has a curative effect on the thrombosis and elevated blood viscosity, but also Acori Rhizoma (for resuscitation) and Pinelliae Rhizoma (for eliminating the phlegm) could necessary as supporting drugs.
