The coastal valley plains at Hyangchon- and Sadeung-Dong in Sacheon city have been formed in the relation to the sea-level changes of Holocene. The geomorphic development could be sensitively influenced by the fluctuation of the water-table with the Holocene sea-level. The geomorphic development and environmental changes of the later half of Holocene have been inquired by the sedimentary facies and pollen analysis. The results are summerized as follows: 1) The river flowing from the hills was very short, and therefore supplied sediments to the plain a small amount. Coastal sediments by the littoral current have enclosed the narrow entrance of the plain seeward. As the results, the lagoonal environment was organized and the peat layers with the abundant cellulose have been thickly sedimented. 2) There are few findings about pollen analysis as well as about the geomorphic development and sea-level changes on the south coastal plains of Korea. The main trees of Holocene were Quercus sp., Alnus sp. and Pinus sp. on the study area. The vegetatlonal environment from abundant Pinus pollen of the area was similar with that of the later half of Holocene of East Coast. The dominant period of AP except Alnus on the study area indicated the change of Pinus dominance → Quercus dominance → Pinus dominance, has been correlated to the previous result of East Coast. The climate was supposed to be warm and wet during fast all the periods on the pollen diagram indicating Quercus dominance. 3) The successional records of vegetation have been preserved in the peat layers of the study area according to the sea-level fluctuation of Holocene. And the changing period of Alnus- or Quercus-dominance was clearly distinguished in the relation to the other pollen arts. Causing to this characteristics similar to the results of the West Coast, Pollenzone SCP- I (Subzone I a, I b) by Alnus-dominance and Pollenzone SCP- lI by Ouercus-dominance have been divided. On Pollenzone SCP1- I a, the herbaceous plants could`nt be grown properly caused by the elevation of the sea-level and water-table, despite of the dominate of Alnus sp.. On Pollenzone SCP1- I b according to the fall of the sea-level, Alnus was dominant and marshy plants as Typha, Gramineae(Phragmites) were in full flourish. And then these plants were rapidly decreased, as the marsh was disappeared with emerged lowland on the study area. Pollenzone SCP-II was not influenced by the sea-level fluctuation later on, the vegetation has been successed to the Increase of Gramineae and Artemisia. Gramineae and Artemisia have increased predominantly with the beginning of Pollenzone SCP-II. This indicates that the rice agriculture has been intensified on the study area from this time. This is supposed to be about 2,500y. BP from the tendency of the sea-level change and the short distance from Kimhae.
