North Korea has been interested in the development of higher education and, universities has provided higher manpower for the development of economy and society. It also plays an important role in maintaining North Korea's structure of society as a means of training political elites. Especially after the advent of Kim Jung-Il government, higher education has been emphasized as a means to make North Korea a 'Kangsong Daeguk' (one of the greatest and mighty state nations in the world). This study tries to search direction in which North Korean higher education can develop, by analyzing socialistic characteristics of university education and entrance examination system. For this aim, the study investigates historical changes of higher education, types of universities and their construction, and campus life. It also tries to evaluate the features and processes of entrance examination system of university.
