The final objective of this study is to develop a new bridge scour countermeasure for minimizing bridge failures during flood. Research efforts are, therefore, made to (1) introduce a bridge scour analysis and design system which allows to consider bridge scour characteristics in Korea based on the study of the scour mechanism of bridge foundations and of soil erosion properties: (2) develop the efficient bridge scour monitoring system and the advanced technology for bridge scour inspection: and (3) suggest the comprehensive countermeasures which can augment the safety of bridges during floods through the development of the economical technology to stabilize bridge foundations.
