에피쿠로스학파의 윤리적 지향 = The Ethical Orientation of Epicureanism

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 에피쿠로스학파의 윤리적 지향을 종합적으로 검토하여 에피쿠로스학파의 윤리학이 지닌 비판점과 현대적 의의를 연구한 것이다. 구체적으로 본 논문에서는 소극적 쾌락주의를 인생의 바람직한 태도로 제안한 에피쿠로스학파의 입장을 검토하기 위해 2장에서 에피쿠로스학파의 형이상학적 입장을 자연학과 신의 관점으로 구분하여 검토하고, 3장에서는 에피쿠로스학파의 쾌락과 고통에 관한 입장을 검토하였다. 이어진 4장에서는 에피쿠로스학파가 강조하는 우정의 가치와 죽음에 대한 이해의 문제를 검토하고, 마지막으로 5장과 6장에서는 에피쿠로스학파의 윤리학이 남긴 문제와 현대적 의의를 검토하고자 하였다. 헬레니즘 시대의 태생적 한계에도 불구하고, 에피쿠로스학파의 소극적 쾌락 추구와 정신적 평온함에 대한 강조는 오늘날 불안과 싸우는 우리의 삶에도 소중한 처방적 의미가 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper comprehensively examines the ethical orientation of Epicureanism and its criticisms and modern significance. Specifically, In order to examine the position of the Epicureans, who proposed negative hedonism as a desirable attitude in life, Chapter 2 reviews the metaphysical position of the Epicureans by dividing them into the viewpoints of nature and God, and in Chapter 3 the Epicureans' position on pleasure and pain. In the following chapter 4, the issue of understanding the value of friendship and the fear of death emphasized by the Epicureans was reviewed, and finally, in chapters 5 and 6, the problems left by the ethics of the Epicureans and the modern significance were examined.
Despite the inherent limitations of the Hellenistic era, Epicureanism's emphasis on the passive pursuit of pleasure and mental tranquility has a precious prescriptive meaning in our anxious lives today.
