후기 근대의 ‘확장된 효율성’과 여성주의 지식생산- 한국고전여성문학 연구에의 함의 = An Expanded Concept of Social Efficiency in Late Modernity and Feminist Knowledge Production: Implications on Classical Korean Women’s Literature Studies

Issues of feminist knowledge production and restructuring of classification scheme in Korean classical women’s literature studies require a theoretical framework that can offer diverse perspectives. This paper claims that the traditional perspective of gender politics on feminist knowledge production is starting to reveal its limitation in late modernity and need be generalized to the one based on practice theory and agonistic politics. This will proceed in the following steps.
First, the concept of social practices as symbolic complex adaptive systems is introduced and explained based on the author’s previous research. Second, agonistic politics as implementation of practice perspective on feminist politics is presented as a comprehensive political strategy encompassing and generalizing identity politics. Third, possibility of mitigating the present prevalence of neoliberal logic based on shallow concept of economic efficiency deteriorating social practices in Korea through introduction of an expanded concept of social efficiency is presented and its impact analyzed carefully. Fourth, it is also pointed out that the practice turn of feminist theory and politics allows Korean women’s studies escape from the worries that it has been indiscriminately applying theories based on western experiences and perspectives. Fifth, analysis of aesthetic experience from the perspective of practice theory reveals the creative role of aesthetic judgment in adaptively transforming social practices in general that has been characterized as an aesthetic character of political judgment at the world-building moment by Arendt. Finally, the practice perspective has important implications on the issues of feminist knowledge production and restructuring of classification scheme in classical Korean women’s literature studies. For example, the importance of the works by women writers in Korean classical literature should be reevaluated for their role of valuable windows on diverse social practices in action as collaborative artworks of ancient Korean societies.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

여성주의 지식생산과 한국고전여성문학 분류체계 재구성 문제를 체계적으로 다루기 위해서는 다양한 관점들을 포괄할 수 있는 새로운 이론적 분석틀이 필요하다. 이 글에서 필자는 여성주의 지식생산에 관한 전통적인 젠더정치 관점은 후기 근대 한국사회에 들어 그 한계를 노정하기 시작했으며 이제 실천이론과 아고니즘 정치에 기반을 둔 관점으로 확장되어야 함을 주장한다. 이를 위해 필자는 다음과 같이 논의를 진행한다.
1) 필자의 선행연구에 근거해서 상징적 복잡적응계로서의 사회적 실천 개념을 제안하고 그 내용을 설명한다. 2) 페미니즘 정치에 대한 실천적 이해는 아고니즘 정치로 구현된다는 점을 주장하고 아고니즘 정치는 정체성 정치를 특수한 경우로 포함시킨 확장된 정치 전략임을 설명한다. 3) 신자유주의 논리가 빠르게 확산되고 있는 후기 근대 한국사회에서 사회적 실천들을 황폐화시키고 있는 편협한 경제적 효율성 개념을 대체할 확장된 효율성 개념을 적극적으로 모색하는 것이 필요하다는 것을 주장하고 대안으로 제시된 확장된 효율성 개념을 상세하게 분석한다. 4) 여성학 방법론과 페미니즘 정치의 실천적 전환을 통해 한국의 여성학은 서구의 경험과 관점에 기반을 둔 서구이론을 무차별적으로 적용한다는 혐의에서 벗어날 수 있다는 점을 강조한다. 5) 실천이론의 관점에서 미적 경험을 분석함으로써 사회적 실천의 적응적 조정에서 미적 판단의 창의적 역할을 드러내고 이러한 미적 판단의 특징이 바로 아렌트가 포착한 세계-구축의 순간에 작동하는 정치적 판단의 미적 특성의 원천임을 강조한다. 6) 마지막으로 이러한 논의로부터 실천이론이 여성주의 지식생산과 한국고전여성문학 자료의 새로운 분류방식이 어떻게 구성되어야 하는지에 대한 체계적인 접근법을 제시할 수 있다는 점을 주장한다. 특히 한국고전여성문학작품에 대해 지금까지 이루어진 기존의 소중한 연구에 기반을 둔 평가에 더해, 이들 여성작가의 작품이 규범적 실천을 통해 유교사회의 안정적 작동에 중요한 역할을 했던 남성작가의 작품에 비해 전통사회 구성원들의 공동 작품인 다양한 사회적 실천들의 적응적 변화가능성의 측면, 즉 창의적 측면에 대한 통찰을 제공해줄 수 있는 중요한 창이 된다는 점을 강조한다.
