들려주는 문학, 옛날이야기 = Folk Tales, Literature Telling Stories

국문 초록 (Abstract)

  옛날이야기는 훌륭한 문학이다. 옛날이야기는 유아들에게 의미가 깊은 공상세계 속에서 이야기가 진행되며, 그 공상세계 속의 이야기가 감추어진 현실속의 진실을 오히려 상징적으로 간직하고 있다.<BR>  옛날이야기 표현방식의 특징은 극적인 발단, 기호와 같은 특징을 지닌 주인공, 주요한 부분의 되풀이, 꼭 필요한 사건이 긴장감 있게 전개되는 것이다. 또 스토리의 겉은 단순하지만 속을 들여다보면 옛날이야기는 궁극적인 인간존재와 세계의 본질적인 문제를 상징적으로 이야기하고 있어, 듣는 사람들이 다양한 해석과 느낌으로 이야기를 즐길 수 있다.<BR>  옛날이야기에 어른들이 잔인하다고 느끼는 부분은 이야기의 완성도를 위해 폭력성이 드러나야 할 부분이며, 이야기 방식도 구체적인 묘사를 하지 않고 있기 때문에 문제가 되지 않는다. 또한 어린이들은 잔인하다는 반응을 별로하지 않으며 간혹 두려움을 느끼기는 하지만 훌륭한 문학을 통해 두려움에 강렬하게 공감하는 체험은 오히려 두려움을 벗어날 수 있게 도와준다.<BR>  옛날이야기를 유아들에게 가르치는 가장 좋은 방법은 본래 방식 그대로 들려주는 것이다. 들려줄 좋은 옛날이야기를 고르는 것이 중요한데 어린이용이라는 이름으로 함부로 잘라버린 그림책이나 고학년용 글책보다는 말한 그대로를 받아 적은 채록 각편 모음을 읽는 것이 좋다. 아이를 사랑하는 마음으로 옛날이야기를 들려주는 어른들이 많아졌으면 좋겠다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

  Folk tales are great literature. Folk tales are mostly the stories of imaginary worlds, which mean a lot for young children. However, the stories symbolically tell of the truth of real life which people often fail to recognize.<BR>  The expression methods of folk tales are characterized by dramatic exposition, main characters that have features like preference, the iteration of major parts, and the development of necessary incidents in a tense atmosphere. In addition, though apparently the tales sound simple, they symbolically tell about the essential matters of ultimate human beings and human world, leading the readers to interpret and enjoy them in various ways.<BR>  The parts of folk tales considered cruel by adults are necessary for the perfection of the story. In addition, as specific description is not employed to tell the tales, they pose little problem. Besides, children hardly consider them cruel, though some feel scared. Experiences of strong fears through great literature help children to escape from fear. The best way to deliver folk tales to young children is to tell them in traditional way. It is also important to select appropriate folk tales.<BR>  The collection of folk tales recorded as told are more appropriate than picture books, parts of that are left out on the grounds that they are written for children, and books written for senior grade children. It is hoped that more and more adults will tell children folk tales.
