신사임당의 효문화관(孝文化觀)의 현대적 이해 = Contemporary understanding of Shinsaimdang’s view of filial piety culture

Shinsaimdang(1504~1551) grew up with the special love of her parents and grandparents. She is said to have been born talented with arts (writing a poem, drawing a picture and calligraphy) and the study of Confucian classics and to have been faithful to her parents due to prenatal care of her by her mother. Accordingly, Shinsaimdang was devoted to the education of her children. Yulgok, her son grew up as a filial child humane person under the influence of education provided by his warm hearted mother, grandmother and maternal grandmother.
Shinsaimdang’s greatness was based on her family environment and home education which made it possible for her to present her ability and talent. This study tried to find true value of filial piety thought which is necessary to promote family members’ right to pursue happiness and examined various data to organize relevant contents. She named her pseudonym as Saimdang(師任堂) and dreamed of being a woman of virtue and gave birth to Yulgok, a representative scholar and prophet during Chosun dynasty.
In Republic of Korea, a problem of low birth rate is serious. Therefore, it is very meaningful to shed a new light on her filial piety thought from the viewpoint of women who career broke. It is advisable to promote movement to awake people’s consciousness of filial piety and to raise bond of sympathy through her filial piety thought. In other words, a goal of right to pursue happiness can be achieved by doing so. Only if it is that way, filial piety thought can be settled as a part of measures for low birth. This is indispensable.
Furthermore, rapid rise in divorce, separation and immorality led family down to reach a serious level recently. Therefore, it is desirable to find a direction of life and filial piety while examining life among today’s people who lead a life with value lost and true meaning of filial piety. It is advisable to prepare a demonstrative model over time and a way to create a new value about Shinsaimdang’s filial piety education thought. We all should be bear the foregoing in mind.
