에이로맨틱/에이섹슈얼의 가족 만들기- 󰡔사랑할 수 없는 두 사람󰡕을 통해 본 새로운 형태의 가족 정체성 = Family-Making Among Aromantic and Asexual Individuals - New Forms of Family Identity as Seen in “Two People Who Cannot Fall in Love”

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 ‘에이로맨틱/에이섹슈얼’을 다룬 소설 󰡔사랑할 수 없는 두 사람󰡕을 중심으로 현대 사회에 등장하고 있는 새로운 가족 형태에 대해 고찰한 것이다. 본 작품은 우연한 기회에 자신이 에이로맨틱/에이섹슈얼임을 인식하게 된 주인공이, 오랜 기간 느껴 온 석연치 않은 감정들에 대한 해답을 얻으며 진정한 자유를 찾아가는 과정을 그리고 있다. 또한 그 과정에서 겪게 되는 가족과의 갈등과 이해, 주변인들과의 소통과 수용, 그리고 가족 만들기의 모습이 사실적으로 그려지고 있다. 아울러 성 소수자 당사자의 정확한 정체성 인식, 이들을 둘러싼 사회적 인식의 변화 및 이해와 수용의 중요성을 피력하고, 나아가 에이로맨틱/에이섹슈얼 당사자인 주인공 두 사람이 ‘味方(미카타, 아군)’라는 개념을 근간으로 하여 함께 만들어 가는 새로운 가족 유형의 가능성을 보여주며, 현대 사회에 존재하는 다양한 형태의 가족상을 제시하고 있다.

This paper examines emerging new forms of family in contemporary society through the novel “Two People Who Cannot Fall in Love”, which centers on the themes of aromanticism and asexuality. The work portrays the journey of the protagonist who, by chance, comes to realize that they are aromantic and asexual. In doing so, they find answers to the vague and unresolved feelings they have experienced for a long time and embark on a path toward true freedom.
The novel realistically depicts the protagonist’s conflicts and reconciliation with family, communication and acceptance with those around them, and the process of creating a chosen family. Furthermore, it emphasizes the importance of accurate self-identification for sexual minorities, the shift in societal perceptions surrounding them, and the need for greater understanding and acceptance. Ultimately, it presents the possibility of a new family model formed by two aromantic/asexual individuals grounded in the concept of ‘mikata’ (meaning "ally" or "supporter"), offering a broader view of the diverse family structures that exist in modern society.
