지명의 대표형 설정과 표기에 대해 -된소리 표기를 중심으로- = A Study on the Establishment of a Representative Form and Confusion of Transcription in Place Name

The transcription of a place name is considered by the Central Place Name Committee. But a standard orthography has not been established, until now. Because of it the transcription of a place name is in a state of confusion.
We discussed a importance of establishment of a representative form and its difficult. Romanized place name that is to say, representative form of place name is used a traffic sign. 'Piat-gol' is articulated as [pʰibatgol]. But a transcription of it is ‘피밭골, 피밧골, 피박골’ dtc. And a transcription of [tətgol] is ‘텃골, 턱골, 터꼴’.
We discussed a representative form of ‘피밭골, 피밧골, 피박골’ and ‘텃골, 턱골, 터꼴’ should be ‘피밭골’ and ‘텃골’. The current rule of orthography and an actual pronunciation of a native residents and an etymology of it must be a major factor, in this process.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

지도에 표기되는 지명은 중앙지명위원회의 심의를 거치지만 지명 표기에 관한 엄격한 규정은 마련되어 있지 않아서 같은 발음이 다르게 표기되기도 한다. 뿐만 아니라 각 연구소나 지자체에서 간행하는 지명자료집의 표기 또한 다르게 표기되는 경우가 많다.
이 글은 지명의 제정 과정을 알아 본 뒤 두 가지 이상으로 전해지는 지명의 대표형 설정과 그 표기 과정의 혼란 양상에 대해 논의하였다.
지명의 대표형 설정과 표기에 관한 문제는 도로 이정표의 표기나 행정지명의 선정과 관련된 것일 수도 있는 만큼 중요한 부분이다. 이러한 부분이 정비되지 않았기 때문에 [pʰibak'ol]을 ‘피밭골, 피밧골, 피박골’ 등으로 적거나 [tək'ol]을 ‘텃골, 턱골, 터꼴’로 적고 있다. 아울러 이러한 지명들의 표기는 각각 현행 맞춤법과 지역 주민의 실제 발음양상과 어원을 살펴 ‘피밭골, 텃골’로 적어야 함을 논의하였다.
