The purpose of this study is to find out teachers' job stressors in the present education situation, to ascertain whether individual characteristics and social support have a buffering effect on teachers' burnout, and to verify causal path among teachers' job stressors, teachers' burnout, and education performance.
To obtain the purpose, Responses of 328 teachers discharging their's duty on high schools in Taegu were analyzed.
Firstly, by means of factor analysis of items measuring teachers' job stressors, Korean teachers' job stressors proved to be six sub-factors such as student guidance, interference of students' parents, picking up technique, inadequate treat, policy change, teaching condition. In order to evaluate relative importance of six sub-factors on teachers' burnout, factors were regressed to the teachers' burnout. As a result, the factors such as student guidance, interference of students' parents, picking up technique, inadequate treat had statistically significant effect on teachers' burnout.
Secondly, in order to ascertain a buffering effect of individual characteristics and social support, t-test, ANOVA and hierarchical multiple regression analysis were conducted. The result had statistically meaningful differences in sex, career, religion, internal-external locus of control, and major study. And social support had a buffering effect or reverse buffering effect on teachers' burnout by interaction between six sub-factors and social support.
Finally, in order to verify causal path among teachers' job stressors, teachers' burnout, and education performance, path analysis was conducted. As a result, student guidance, interference of students' parents, picking up technique, and inadequate treat negatively affected education performance through teachers' burnout. And policy change and teaching condition had direct effect on education performance.
The result of this study complements the established theories and suggests policy implication.
