This paper examines the background of the formation of Hangaeksuchang(韓客酬唱) possessed in the Korean National Maritime Museum, the status and characteristics of poetry in it, and the aspects of the exchange of writers in both countries. Hangaeksuchang is one of the results of the active exchanges between the writers of the two countries when Tongsinsa celebrating the enthronement of a new Shogun in 1682 was accredited to Japan. Yamada Fukuken(山田原欽), the scriber of the Hagihan(萩藩) of Japan, gathered the contents of the written conversations and poems with Seong wan, Lee Damryeong, Hong Setae, etc, which was made in two meetings and made them into a scroll in May 1683. The number of poems in the first meeting is 15, and that of poems in the second meeting is 25, so there are a total of 25 poems. The form of poetry emphasizes lyricism, but in order to be able to respond quickly in a short meeting, all poems are made of a quatrain with seven-word lines except for only one poem. The contents of Hangaeksuchang can be divided into the first meeting (August 29th) and the second meeting(September 2nd). The first meeting arranged by the scriber of Tsushima was mainly concerned with the relief of Yamada Fukuken about the fulfillment of his desire for communicating with Tongsinsa and the praise of Joseon writers for literary talents of an outstanding Japanese gifted person. On the other hand, the main content of the second meeting made by the request of the Joseon writers are the reaffirmation of each other`s literary talents and expression of the regret that they should soon be separated. In this way, Hangaeksuchang has a significance of cultural exchanges in that it can show the general growth of Japanese culture including literature since the 17th century as well as the desire of Japanese for exchanges with Tongsinsa at that time.
