『이충무공전서』 귀선도설의 일러스트레이션 표현 연구 = A Study on the Illustration of Turtle Ship in 『The Collected Works of Yi Sunsin』

‘The Collected Works of Yi Sunsin’was compiled in 1795 under the order of King Jeong-jo, and was aimed at enhancing the loyalty and achievements of Yi Sunsin to the country and promoting it to the whole country. At the beginning of the book, there is an explanation of the illustration, structure, and dimensions of the turtle ship, which are very important for the study of turtle ship. It was deployed to prevent the invasion of the sea from the enemy. In ‘The Collected Works of Yi Sunsin’ it was necessary to descriptive writing the illustration and structures of the ‘Byeolje turtle ship’ created by Yi Sunsin in 1591, but, there was no illustration of the handed down Yi Sunsin Turtle Ship. Therefore, descriptive writing on the illustration, structure, and dimensions of the Tongjeyeong turtle ship and the Jeolla Jwasuyeong turtle ship, which were used as battleships at that time, was replaced. In fact, recording the details of the illustrations, structures, and dimensions of the special battleships operated by the Navy in a book so that the public can read them is a leak of military secrets, and there was a risk of sneaking into external enemies. Painter(畫員) in the Dohwaseo(圖畫署) expressed turtle ship paintings so that ordinary people could recognize them naturally, but they had to use optical illusions, emphasis, ambiguous boundaries, unclear locations, and overlapping effects to avoid revealing important military secrets about turtle ship structures acquired for more than 200 years. In addition, important dimensions were excluded from the explanation, and in part, illustration expressions and descriptions were intentionally recorded differently so that the enemy could not perfectly reproduce the turtle ship. The purpose of this study is to reveal the structure of the Tongjeyeong turtle ship and Jeolla Jwasuyeong turtle ship. As a result of the study, the original structure was reproduced by 3D computer graphics by analyzing the illustration and descriptive writing of the intentional manipulation of the two turtle ships.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

『이충무공전서』는 1795년(정조19) 임금의 명으로 편찬되었으며, 무신 이순신의 국가에 대한 충성과 업적을 높이고 온 나라에 알리는데 목적이 있었다. 권수에는 통제영 귀선과 전라좌수영 귀선의 일러스트레이션과 구조, 치수에 대한 설명문이 있어 조선시대 귀선 연구에 매우 중요한 사료가 된다. 『이충무공전서』귀선도설에는 1591년 이순신이 창제한‘별제귀선’의 그림과 설명문을 넣어야했지만 전해지는 사료가 없어 1795년 당시에 운용중인 통제영 귀선과 전라좌수영 귀선의 일러스트레이션과 설명문을 넣게 되었다. 수군에서 운용중인 특수한 전함을 사실적 표현의 일러스트레이션과 구조, 치수의 내용을 책에 기록해 일반인이 읽을 수 있도록 반포한다는 것은 사실상 군사기밀의 유출이고, 외적에게 은밀하게 흘러들어갈 위험성도 있었다. 도화서의 화원은 일반인들이 귀선의 일러스트레이션을 자연스럽게 인식할 수 있으면서도 200여년 넘게 운용하면서 얻은 귀선 구조의 중요한 군사기밀이 그림에서 노출되지 않도록 시각적 착시, 강조, 모호한 경계선, 불분명한 위치, 중첩의 효과를 사용해 일러스트레이션 표현기법으로 감춰야 했다. 또한 설명문의 중요한 수치는 의도적으로 누락시키고, 부분적으로 일러스트레이션의 표현과 설명을 다르게 기록해 외적이 귀선을 완벽하게 재현할 수 없도록 오류를 유발시켰다. 본 연구는 『이충무공전서』의 통제영 귀선과 전라좌수영 귀선의 군사기밀 내용을 분석해 구조와 형태의 원형을 찾는데 목적이 있다. 연구결과로, 두 거북선의 의도적인 조작의 시각적 표현과 설명의 분석을 통해 3차원 컴퓨터그래픽으로 원형을 복원하였다.
