The 7th revised national curriculum in Korea has been recently introduced to high schools. One of the major changes in the revised national curriculum is to emphasize the students` selective right in high school curriculum. The purpose of this study is to examine the meaning of the students` selective right and explore some ideas of promoting its main ideas in Korean high schools. In more detail, the aims of the study are to: 1) Identify the expectation on selective-centered curriculum and the specific meaning of the students` selective right suggested in the 7th national curriculum document. 2) Analyse the organizing table of selective-centered curriculum proposed for in school-based level in order to examine of whether the meaning of the students` selective right is reflected in the curriculum as intended in the 7th national curriculum. As a sample, the study analysed 30 cases gathered from high schools different in their size. 3) Explore some ideas leading to the achievement of the students` selective right in school-based level. The result of this study shows that the students` selective right of school based curriculum seems not to reflect sufficiently the expectation and intention as suggested in the national curriculum. The organizing table of selective-centered curriculum being introduced in high schools appears not to guarantee the students` selective right in a positive way by which students` choice in subject matters is assured. There are several reasons to explain this result. Most of schools do not seem to have enough facilities and staff members by which the students` selective right is guaranteed. Since students are not informed sufficiently in their choice of subject matters, teachers are likely to think that students` choice can be wrong. This means that the level of the students` selective right is mainly determined by school. The results suggest that in order to achieve the actual realization of the students` selective right, the national curriculum should allow schools to have more flexibility and autonomy on school-based level in curriculum decision making.
