도덕교육의 이념으로서의 아퀴나스의 신데레시스(Synderesis)

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목표는, 개념(또는 현상)의 차원과 이념의 차원이라는 명백히 상이한 두 차원에서 양심의 의미와 기능을 드러내는 토마스 아퀴나스의 도덕이론을 교육학적 관점에서 재조명함으로써, 그것이 도덕교육의 방법적 원리를 설명하는 데 주는 시사점을 탐색하는 것에 있다. 특히, 아퀴나스의 ‘신데레시스’는 윤리학에서 흔히 제기되는 난점인 인간의 몸과 마음, 주체와 대상, 사실과 당위, 인간의 자연적 본성과 사회적 관례 등의 이원론적 대립 문제를 해소하는 데 중요한 관건이 되는 개념으로서, 그것에서 도출된 도덕교육이론은 무엇보다도 도덕교육의 항구적 과제라고 볼 수 있는 지식과 도덕, 또는 지식과 행위의 괴리 문제를 새로운 시각에서 접근하도록 하는 데 있어 대안적 관점을 제시할 것이다..

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This essay analyzes some aspects of St. Thomas Aquinas’(1224/5–1274) moral theory, centering on the meaning and function of conscience at the both levels of phenomena and idea, from the perspective of education, and thereby clarifying implications on the methodological principles of today’s moral education. In this argument, education is more than teaching norms; it also is learning about various general experiences. In other words, education is the process of seeking human goodness. Perhaps, the most serious problem is not that we are now in trouble, but, rather, that we do not understand what is “good” and that we refuse to seek goodness.
