The purpose of this tudy is to investigate the reform measures of the vocational education, which is the core curriculum supporting the advance from the school life inteo the adult life. To do so, this study analyzed the demands of the curriculum of vocational education, the administration of the vocational education, empllyment and life planning in the junior and senior hign chools for the students with mental retardation.
Questionnaries were used ot investigate the demands on the basis of the variables of the parents(variables : sexes, ages, schooling, and economic power) and the teachers(variables;p qualifidatons, ages, and careers) of the junior and senior high school parts of 3 special schools for the students with mental retardation in Dargu city for the sake of the actual vocational education for the students with mental retardation. And Chi-Square(x2) was conducted to investigate the differences of the frequency appering in the demands of the parents and the techers on the basis of the variables.
The demands of the parents of the students and the teachers on the basis of their variables were examined and analyzed.
The results ard as follows;
First, it is necessary for the vocational education curriculum to be changed from the supplier-centered uniform vocational education curriculum to the user-centered individualized vocational education curriculum allowing for the abilities and aptitude for the individual students. With this change, the students with mental retardation may work actually in the employment markers after the transition form the shcool to be neccdessary to employ the professional teachers who understand all the characteristics of the students with mental retardation and can provide the most suitable vocational education.
Second, it is neccessary to converge the opinions of the students who utilize the vocational education and their parents and teachers responsible for their education and living in administering the vocational education. And it is also necessary to operate the programs of vocational education fit for the vocational interests and aptitude after assessing all the vocational characteristics of the students with mental retardation. As the employment markers where thet will be actually emplayed are communities, it is necessary to enable them to wrok in the real sense of the word by strengthening the industrial-educational cooperation between the schools and the industries in the communities.
Third, it is necessary toe develop various areas of industries so that the students with mental retardation who utilize the vocational education may have hobs in thouse ares actually after graduation in terms of employment and support. The provision of equal employment oportunities and the policies of continuous empllymetn support are also necessary. And not only the efforts to chang the consciousness of the normal people about the employment of the disabled but also the continuous support and concerns of the government and the communities for the alienated class of the society are necessary.
