필리핀 청소년의 가치관발달에 미치는 가족의 영향 연구 = The Extent Of Family Influence On The Development Of Family Values Among Filipino Youth

The descriptive-survey design was used to determine the extent of family influence on the development of family values among the Filipino youth as perceived by the first year college students of Central Philippine University during the summer term of 2006. The subjects of the present study were the total population of 1,790 first year college students. The computed sample size is 327, which were the total respondents of the study. They were classified according to the mediating variables: gender, family income level, and type of high school graduated from. The study utilized the instrument that was constructed by the researcher based on her observations, experiences, and reviewed related literature, books, journals, and periodicals. The instrument used was the questionnaire consisted of two parts. Part I dealt with information to gather data regarding the respondents` personal factors such us name(optional), gender, family income, and type of high school graduated from. Part II was the main questionnaire regarding students` perception of family influence on the development of family values among Filipino youth, consisting of 30 items. The statistical tools employed were the mean, frequency count, percentage, and t-test. The levels of significance for all inferential tests were set at .05 alpha. The findings revealed that there were a very high extent of family influence on the development of family values among the Filipino youth when classified according to the mediating variables: gender, family income level, and type of high school graduated from. Specifically, the parents had high extent of influence on their children`s motivation to learn more and do better in school. It was also revealed that parents had high extent of influence on their children`s choice of polite speech and expressions. Based on the findings of the study, the researcher concludes that the family has very high extent of influence on the development of family values among Filipino youth. The parents have great influence on their children`s motivation to perform academically. Likewise, they have high extent of influence on their children`s choice of polite speech and expressions. The parents, being the first model actors in life, should continuously motivate and guide their children to study more and do better in school in order to prepare them to become professionals and productive members of society.
