This paper is to attempt a tentative model for working on the systematic understanding of the college students' problem in Korean universities. Especially this attempt is for the complementary aspect for the researches in which almost all of Korean university guidance centers have administered on the purpose of the understandings of their students. Their research methods are definitely termed as "description" because their items or questions are focused upon students' personal, psychological satisfactions. Is indeed college, college student, campus life only psychological? It is natural that they have their own right independent of situational reasons. In this sense the research for understanding of college students' problem should be referred to as their own meaning. Such a research can bs termed as "normative viewpoint".
First, the problems of college students are not mearly responses of their psychological satisfaction, but constitution on the basis of the conceptions of college itself. Second, they are characteristically the conflicts of idea and condition. Third, they are theoritical; they respond to the situation faced, but instead defined and interprete it. On the basis of those conditions some basic assumptions for the research are stated; (1) students' perception on college consists of their perception on college environment and on their mental qualification. (2) their perceptions imply the exposure of their emphasise. (3) intrinsic value of college represents students' judgement toward college. (4) strategy for interpretative of college students' problem is the diagnosis of their method state.
Consequently the items or questions for the research are dependent upon the possibility and delimitation of behavioral term toward the meaning of college. This paper suggests the basic fourteen concepts for making items.
