When a fire breaks out in a high-rise building, it could be more dangerous due to its height and high density. About 40% of fire accidents broke out at residential places in Korea for a last decade which brought about approximately 2,300 casualties and much loss of property. This paper assessed reliability of major evacuation models in order to evaluate occupant life safety level at a high-rise building. In general, assessing evacuation safety without proper review of simulation results could lead to an erroneous conclusion with serious implication. Therefore, this paper, in order to perform quantitative analysis on the results of full-scale experiments based on actual situation and simulation, used Euclidean Relative Difference (ERD) and Euclidean Projection Coefficient (EPC) to derive comparison between values derived from each condition. Simulation tools used for comparative analysis were Simulex, Pathfinder, buildingEXODUS and GongEgress. The simulation models focused on agent’s movement on the staircases of high-rise buildings. The results showed that, on average, the buildingEXODUS exhibited the closest similarity. On the other hand, Pathfinder showed the biggest difference against the real experiment, showing problems with reliability of resulting values.
