자동차보험 대인배상 경추염좌 피해자의 치료비 특성 연구 = A Study of Medical Expense Characteristics Whiplash Victims on Automobile Liability Insurance

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper investigates characteristics of victims and medical service providers on medical expenses of automobile liability insurance in Korea. Authors employ 12,572 whiplash claims settled in 2009. The study finds that victims' sex and age variables are statistically related to medical expenses, the fact that supports previous literature. Taxi drivers are found to incur significantly less medical expenses. This indicates potential moral hazard of taxi drivers on whiplash claims either medical expense or pain & suffering payouts. Primary hospitals and doctors are found to charge more medical expenses on whiplash treatment, which implies the existence of potential physician induced demand in those institutions. Oriental hospitals also show higher medical expenses on whiplash treatment.
