This study is to analyze the relative indices of student activities for the 'social studies' textbooks based on the 7th curriculum, currently used in teaching and studying, and their Inquiry Tendency.
And, 6 types of the 'social studies' textbooks for high school 11th graders were analysed by using the Romey's quantitative method.
As for the method of this study, Romey's method is used th analyze the four components ; contents of Text, Figures/Diagrams, Activities and Questions.
The result of comparative analysis of high school 'social studies' textbooks are same as following.
The first is that 6 'social studies' textbooks turn out to be non-explorative to evaluate students' investigative abilities, considering that the average of T-Value is 0.21.
However, the textbooks of the 7th educational curriculums can speak as a inquiry-oriented textbooks when compared with the 6th's
Second, index K average value can say that a most textbooks are textbooks of profound knowledge by 1.26.
But, can not speak that is a good textbook to study necessarily even if speak that is textbook of profound knowledge.
Studying-data or definition lack can give trouble to students' learning.
Third, index FD average value about figures and diagrams showed low by
0.39. But, A, F textbook can speak as a inquiry-oriented textbook by 0.54.
C, D textbook can speak as a textbook that FD value is non-explorative being
small relatively.
Fourth, because activity index A average value is 1.68, a most textbooks are a inquiry- oriented textbooks.
C, D, F textbook appeared high by 1.9, 2.3, 1.9. But, can not speak that is desirable because give strain to students and teacher if present so many activities.
Fifth, question index Q average value showed more or less high by 3.57.
E, F textbook index value by 7.33, 6.14 overly high inquiring inclination appear.
Question of inordinate inquiring inclination can give opposit effect to students without question for enough concept confirmation.
Sixth, average value of whole textbook index can do that is displaying inquiry- oriented inclination by 1.42.
Most indices of a A textbook belong to 0.5<index≤1.5, therefore can speak as the most desirable textbook.
As mentioned above, examined a 'social studies' textbook by the 7th education curriculum by Romey's method.
This study finding supplies useful information in teacher's text book selection,
