This paper suggests a teaching model for English literacy skills to primary school children through English story-telling. The teaching model was designed based on the whole language approach which emphasized the advantages of teaching four language skills together from the start of learning a foreign language. The model was planned for children to develop their reading and writing skills as well as speaking and listening skills in English classes of elementary schools by utilizing the technique of English story-telling.
Some characteristics of the teaching model are as follows. Firstly, some children's stories which were suitable for teaching the language functions of the text books were selected and incorporated into the text. Secondly. activities for story-telling proceeded through three steps; pre-reading, while-reading post-reading activities. Thirdly, language games, plays, and role plays were employed to provide children with curiosity and fun for learning. Lastly, reading and writing activities were developed and included in addition to speaking and listening activities.
