This study quantifies freshwater supply ecosystem services in Jirisan National Park and analyzes their spatial patterns using the InVEST Water Yield model. The model was parameterized using spatial datasets including precipitation, land cover, soil depth, and a Digital Elevation Model (DEM). Reference evapotranspiration (ET0) was sourced from the Global Aridity Index and Potential Evapotranspiration Climate Database v2 (WorldClim-based). The Z parameter was set to 22, derived from the regional average of 110 annual precipitation days (≥1 mm). Analysis revealed a total annual water yield of 521.74 million m3, equating to an estimated economic value of 27.5 billion KRW based on the 2025 K-water dam water tariff (52.7 KRW/m3). Water yield demonstrated a positive correlation with both elevation (r=0.330) and precipitation (r=0.314).
Notably, non-forest areas (1296.3 mm) exhibited a higher mean water yield per unit area than forest areas (1083.3 mm).
Analysis of Special-Purpose Districts indicated that the ‘Nature conservation district in a park’ provided the highest mean water yield per unit area (1,145.7 mm). However, the ‘Natural environment district in a park’ contributed the largest total water volume (333.06 million m3) due to its extensive area. These findings provide foundational data to support policies for water resource conservation and ecosystem service management within the national park.
