도덕 실재론의 과거와 그 전망 = Moral Realism, Its Roots and Viability

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 도덕 실재론과 도덕 판단의 관계, 곧 도덕 심리, 도덕 언어, 그리고 도덕 진리의 관계를 밝힌다. 이는 다음과 같이 진행된다. 우선 도덕 인지주의와 도덕 기술주의를 정의하고 이 둘 사이에 성립하는 관계를 살핀다. 다음으로 도덕 기술주의와 도덕 인지주의가, 전자가 후자를 함축하기에, 동일한 근거로부터 옹호될 수 있음을 밝힌 후, 도덕 기술주의와 도덕 실재론 사이에 성립하는 관계를 살핀다. 마지막으로 도덕 기술주의가 도덕 실재론의 필요조건이지만 이가 실재론을 위한 충분조건이 아니기에, 도덕 기술주의와 함께 도덕 실재론의 충분조건이 될 대안 이론으로 도덕 진리 대응설을 살핀다. 이 논문의 결론은 ‘도덕 진리 대응설이 비록 도덕 실재론을 보장하지만 그 이론적 부담이 크기 때문에 도덕 실재론자라면 가능한 피해야 할 것으로 보이며, 따라서 도덕 실재론은 도덕 기술주의 보다는 강하지만 도덕 진리 대응설 보다는 이론적 부담이 적을 수 있는 대안을 모색해야 한다.’이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This is a critical examination of the following claims: (1) S is a moral realist if, and only if S is a moral cognitivist; (2) S is a moral realist if, and only if S is a moral descriptivist; and (3) S is a moral realist if, and only if S is a correspondence theorists of moral truth. Thest claims about the necessity and sufficiency of those 3 positions for moral realism are examined. This is done against the background of those newly developed meta-ethical theories such as ‘projectivism,’ ‘irrealist cognitivism,’ ‘noncognitivist moral realism,’ ‘an error theory,’ etc. This discussion becomes even more significant as the debate becomes more complex because of the advent of the so-called ‘quasi-realism’ in moral discourse.
