덕 윤리학의 관점에서 본 바람직한 태권도인의 상 = A Study on the Ideal Image of Taekwondo Practitioner from the Virtue Ethics

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to describe the ideal image of Taekwondo practitioner from the MacIntyre`s Virtue Ethics. In order to accomplish this purpose, firstly the characteristics of Taekwondo as a kind of human activity will be identified. Secondly, we will suggest five virtues of Taekwondo practitioner. And the suggested virtues will be reviewed whether they satisfy or not satisfy the condition of virtue itself in the sense of MacIntyre. Thirdly, the image of Taekwondo practitioner as a person with such virtues is described. The result of this review can be summarized as follows: Taekwondo is a kind of practice in the sense of MacIntyre. According to MacIntyre, a practice means any coherent and complex form of socially established cooperative human activity through which goods internal to that form of activity are realized in the course of trying to achieve those standards of excellence which are appropriate to, and partially definitive of, that form of activity, with the result that human powers to achieve excellence, and human conceptions of the ends and goods involved, are systematically extended. The four tendencies which we as the virtues of Taekwondo practitioner suggested, are courage, fortitude, courtesy, and justice. These tendencies satisfy all preconditions of virtue which MacIntyre mentioned. As a result, we can say that the ideal Taekwondo practitioner should be a person who practices sincerely Taekwondo with passion, a person who is going to expand own`s possibilities while overcoming various difficulties and suffering experienced in the training process as courage and perseverance, a well-mannered person who does not abuse the powers of body and mind gained through Taekwondo practicing, and a righteous person who treated everyone fairly and can serve and sacrifice for the common good of humanity.
