서일본 및 조선 관계 대의사 秋田寅之介의 식민지 경제 침탈과 제국의회 활동 = A Study on the Colonial Economic Exploitation and the Imperial Diet Activities of Toranosuke Akita, a Representative of Relations between Western Japan and Joseon

This study investigates the correlation between Akita Doranosuke's invasion and management of the colonial economy and his activities in the Imperial Diet. Akita actively participated in colonial management by establishing companies and branches or branch offices in Taiwan, China, and Joseon, focusing on Shimonoseki, and expanding its sales network to the colonies. The representative regions and sales networks were Manchuria and Joseon. In particular, in Joseon, the forestry and mining industries were managed until defeat in the war. In this process, Akita advanced into regional politics centered on Shimonoseki as well as central politics of imperial Japan. Such political activities were also a process of further consolidating colonial development and one's own economic foundation.
First, Akita focused on issues related to the district from which he was elected and where he resides, especially pending issues. The representative issues are Tsushima's municipal system and transportation and Shimonoseki's fishing port facilities and transportation. This was also an issue that had a close relationship with the colony in mind from a geopolitical perspective, and Akita actively expressed this. It also focused on issues related to the colonies, especially Joseon. Colonial-related issues were closely linked to imperial Japan's colonial rule and governance. However, Akita always linked this to his economic foundation, West Japan, as well as his sales network. It was no exaggeration to say that this was mainly concentrated on his Shimonoseki's main business, trade, fisheries and fishing, and transportation, as well as the colony's main business, forestry and mining.
As a result, Akita was a ‘representative of Western Japan relations’ representing the Fukuoka and Yamaguchi regions of western Japan, especially Tsushima and Shimonoseki. In addition, it can be said that he was a so-called ‘representative of Joseon relations’ who could not help but represent colonial Joseon because it was its economic foundation in the relationship with the region and with oneself.
