2, 3년제 대학 유아교육과 신입생의 학과 적응과정의 질적 고찰:신입생이 인식하는 학과의 문화적 특성을 중심으로 = A Qualitative Study on Freshmen Perceptions of Course Adaptation in Early Childhood Education in Two Year Colleges and Three Year Colleges

The purpose of this study was to analyze freshmen perceptions of course adaptation in early childhood education in two year colleges and three year colleges based on culture characteristics of departments of early childhood education. The main participants of this study were five freshmen at HanBit College, a two year college, and five freshmen at PuReun College, a three year college, during March-June 2006. The data were collected mainly through main in-depth interviews, participation observation, e-mails, and investigator’s reflective journals. Additionally, to broaden and deepen understanding of participants’ talking and acting, investigator referred to interviews of assistant teachers, instructors, other professors, and early childhood educators who have college freshmen children. An investigator participated in school events to observe students’ acting and indirectly observed students’ after school assignment meeting.
Results of the collected information showed that freshmen students of early childhood education department at two and three year colleges understood that department of early childhood education consists in ‘team’, ‘senior group’, and ‘junior group’, ‘assignment of swamp and trap’-obstruction of course adaptation, and various courses and instructors. Students learned ‘group activities’ know-how and shaped their identity as an early childhood educator. The investigator understood freshmen school life through these results. This understanding might help to adapt course for freshmen and it suggests importance of qualitative study about preservice teachers.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 2, 3년제 대학 유아교육과 신입생의 학과 적응 과정을 이해하기위한 목적으로 신입생들이 인식하고 있는 유아교육과의 문화적 특성을 밝히고 그 문화 속에서 적응해 가는 과정을 질적 분석하였다. 2006년 3월부터 2006년 6월 1학기 15주 동안 2년제 대학인 한빛 대학의 신입생 5명과 3년제 대학인 푸른 대학의 신입생 5명을 주요 연구 참여자로 하여 심층면담과 간접적 참여관찰, 연구 참여자 서술 방식, 연구자의 반성적 저널쓰기를 통해 자료를 수집 하였다.
수집한 자료를 분석한 결과 2, 3년제 대학 유아교육과 신입생들은 유아교육과를 ‘조’라는 과제수행 그룹과 ‘언니그룹’, ‘애들 그룹’, ‘과제의 늪과 덫’, ‘다양한 과목과 강사’가 존재하는 문화로 인식하고 있었고 ‘조’활동의 노하우를 터득해가고 친밀한 인간관계를 형성해가며 학과에 적응해 가고 있었다. 이러한 적응 과정을 통하여 과제의 의미를 알고 자아를 발견하며 유아교사로의 비젼을 찾아 가는 것으로 파악되었다. 이와 같은 분석결과를 통해 신입생의 학과 생활에 대한 이해를 할 수 있었으며, 이러한 이해가 신입생의 학과 적응과 예비유아 교사교육을 도울 수 있는 방안을 마련하는데 기초가 될 수 있음을 제기하였다.
