This writing wishes to investigate a rhetorical study of cognitive linguistics metaphor theory among various metaphor theories that have been spreading in modem rhetoric to attain footing on which modem literature study and criticism can be progressed more deeply. This writing puts in order with this critical mind metaphor theory centering of George Lakoff·Mark Johnson's cognitive linguistics metaphor theory. And then this writing searches for potential of rhetorical literature criticism investigating metaphor theories in modem rhetoric.
Aristotle defined metaphor in dimension of 'name' or 'word' in Poetics, and regarded that metaphorical meaning of the word is attained through 'similarity' and 'alternation'. Traditional writing of books since Aristotle reinforced mainly his opinion, and emphasize principle of 'gracefulness' which insist necessary nature and agreement between metaphor factors mainly. G. Lakoff and M. Johnson wish to examine metaphor that has excluded in tradition objectivism philosophy does some role for philosophical thought, and make clear structure of metaphorical extension through body-empirical search. These divide comprehension and experience to physical·bodily dimension and abstract·spiritual dimension, recognition of physical dimension branches by recognition of abstract dimension by 'metaphorical projection'. We have reasoning pattern that is an 'image schema' in the foundation of metaphorical projection, it restricts recognition while act for basis of recognition. Lakoff·Johnson reappraised time·cause·incident·mind·self·morality etc. that is center concept of occidental philosophy by access method of this experience method, and spoke that these can not compose if these concepts do not suppose many folk theory, idealized recognition model, metaphorically defined concepts etc. And These sees thought which become target in the each analysis projects ontology of 'source area' in order to make ontology of 'target area'.
