Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) has proved to be a safe and effective treatment for stenois of vessels, and became an important adjuvant and a viable alternative to surgical correction of ischemic vascular disease of lower extremity.
Complications from PTA include dissection, occlusion, embolization, and rupture. The most important complication occurring at the angioplasty site is acute occlusion attributed to thrombus.
We experienced the acute thrombosis patient after PTA for femoropopliteal arteriosclerosis, and attempted to catheter directed thrombolysis, but this effect was to no avail and thus, we extracted the thrombus by simple thrombectomy. Thereafter the patient came to have good pluse and was free of rest pain.
