Through the time-geographic concepts of life-path and constraints, this paper gives an analysis on Czech author Bohumil Hrabal’s novel I Served the King of England focusing on the story’s time-space context. The life-path of the protagonist, Dítě, can be divided into three sections: First section where Dítě goes through training as an apprentice waiter, second section where he serves the Nazi after their Czech annexation, and the third section where he turns into a hotel owner but gets his property confiscated as the communist regime emerges. Overall, Dítě’s life-path shows narrow daily prisms, for Dítě has limited means of transportation and is under influence of coupling constraint from his job as a hotel waiter. However, although his narrow range of daily movement, Dítě is provided with opportunity to interact with various range of people, which was possible by the time-geographic characteristic of hotel; acting as a path bundle. Experience accumulated through such numerous interactions had a significant influence on Dítě’s value formation and choices he made throughout the story.
