This study is concerned with investigating the status and reality of `Korean Knowledge` chapter in the 7th curriculum and its textbook contents in the 10th year (1st year in senior high school) which is the last year for common curriculum, together with the problems that can arise from classrooms. Objectives of the education of Korean knowledge in the 7th Curriculum include `equipping the students with necessary basic knowledge for improved usage function of the Korean language` and `familiarizing the students with the basic knowledge that they should know about Korean`. Conclusions are reached as follows: 1) In the Korean Knowledge chapter, Korean knowledge of educational value is treated in the `Korean Fundamentals` part, while conceptual understanding of the structural features of Korean is described in the `Understanding and Exploring of Korean` part and those having strong formalities in the `Rules and the Applications of Korean` part. 2) The subject of Korean in the 7th curriculum adopts a stepwise curriculum of supplement and intensity type in the 1st through 10th years, while one of elective subject type in the 11th and 12th years. 3) In the curriculum for the 10th year, for example, the Korean Knowledge chapter is composed of 9 hours of `Understanding and Exploring of Korean,` 6 hours of `Rules and Applications of Korean,` 5 hours of "Fundamentals of Korean,` and 2 hours of `Attitudes toward Korean,` with the `Understanding and Exploring of Korean` taking the largest share. The problem that can arise from classrooms include; 1) the lack of hierarchial order in the contents, 2) inappropriateness of the supplement and intensity study for the classroom environment, and 3) the limited evaluation methods for the Korean Knowledge chapter.
